History
A E Wildman & Son of Spilsby, which was started in 1926 by Ted Wildman, a local chap who was well known for his intrest in performance motorcycles, and a competitor in many off-road events of the day, mounted usually on AMC machines.
It was said that you could hear him going to work, from his home in Wainfleet, some 20 miles away, on whatever tasty bit of machinery he was testing at the time.
The firm had a spread of agencies including Norton, AJS, Matchless, Puch and many others throughout the decades until Wildman's became one of the first UK Suzuki outlets by virtue of their connections with AMC, who first imported the bikes.
There are still a few ancient motorcyclists riding around on bikes with a Wildman's sticker on the mudguard showing a four-digit phone number.
The Wildman name lives on as a more conventional modern bike shop in adjacent premises, now with a larger shop and better facilities, and proprietor Chris Lake of the young age of 19.
